Registered cash register system 2.0

GKS 2.0 is mandatory: which deadline applies to your business?

The royal decree of 3 June 2026 makes it final: since 1 July 2026, GKS 2.0 is the standard in hospitality. New businesses use it from the start; existing businesses switch according to the purchase date of their register. Here is which deadline applies to you and how to check it.

GKS 2.0 with the three switch dates: 1 July 2027, 1 July 2028 and 1 January 2029

On 30 October 2026 this article replaced our post about the final extension. The grace period until 30 June 2026 is over.

New business: GKS 2.0 from day one

If you start a hospitality business, you use GKS 2.0 straight away. Both the register and the fiscal data module (FDM, the 'black box') must be certified for GKS 2.0 by the supplier or manufacturer. There is no transition period any more.

Existing business: these are the deadlines

If you already have a registered cash register, your deadline depends on the purchase date of your most recent register. The FDM date does not count.

  • Register bought before 1 January 2018: switch by 1 July 2027 at the latest.
  • Register bought from 2018 to 2021: by 1 July 2028 at the latest.
  • Register bought from 1 January 2022: by 1 January 2029 at the latest.

Check your deadline in the GKS e-service

In the FPS Finance's GKS e-service you will find your deadline under My profile > Known establishment units. You have access as the legal representative, or with the role 'FODFin Restaurantuitbaters (GKS)'.

What GKS 2.0 changes

With GKS 2.0, your register's data goes to the FPS Finance almost in real time. According to the FPS, this means fewer on-site inspections, and a GKS 2.0 register is faster and better suited to today's technology.

Why not wait until the deadline

  • Delivery times can grow as the deadline approaches.
  • Installation capacity is limited.
  • Connecting a web shop, kiosk or screens takes preparation.

The FPS Finance itself recommends contacting your register supplier in good time.

How Digitaste helps

  • Online ordering, kiosks and screens connected in the same system.
  • Installation and training on site.
  • Advice tailored to your business.
