On 27 March 2026, the FPS Finance shared an important update regarding the introduction of the new certified cash register system (GKS 2.0). For many hospitality operators, this brings extra breathing room — but also clarity about what is actually coming.
⏳ Tolerance period extended to 30 June 2026
The mandatory switch to GKS 2.0 was previously postponed to 1 April 2026. It has now been decided to extend this tolerance period one last time until 30 June 2026 inclusive.
Why this decision?
The availability of certified cash register systems and FDM modules is increasing, but is not yet sufficient for the entire sector
The offer will expand further in the coming months
The government is also investigating a possible expansion to other types of hospitality outlets
👉 Important: this is the final extension. After that, GKS 2.0 will definitively become the standard.
⚙️ What do you need to do between April and June 2026?
Do you need to install a cash register system during this period? Then you currently have 3 options:
1. Switch to GKS 2.0 immediately
Do you already have access to a certified system and FDM? Then you can already be fully compliant now.
2. Register and wait for delivery
You can already register for GKS 2.0 and switch later as soon as your hardware is available.
3. Temporarily work with GKS 1.0
You can still install a current cash register system to temporarily meet the fiscal obligations.
💡 Tip from Digitaste: do not wait too long. Demand will only increase towards June.
🆕 New hospitality businesses: mandatory from day 1
Are you starting a new business?
👉 From 1 July 2026, you are obliged to work with GKS 2.0 immediately.
There is therefore no longer a transition period for new businesses.
🔄 Do you already have a cash register system? These are your deadlines
For existing hospitality businesses, the switch depends on the purchase date of your current cash register:
🗓️ Until 31/12/2017 → switch by 1 July 2027 at the latest
🗓️ 2018 – 2021 → switch by 1 July 2028 at the latest
🗓️ From 2022 → switch by 1 January 2029 at the latest
👉 Please note: the date of your most recent cash register counts (not the FDM).
📊 Why preparing now is smart
Although the deadline still seems some way off, we see in practice:
Lead times can increase
Installation capacity is limited
Integrations (webshop, kiosks, screens) require preparation
👉 Those who switch now avoid stress and can immediately benefit from more modern systems.
